Near sunset or sunrise, the Sun may be hidden for a low-level observer, but the mountain tops may be in direct sunshine. The mountaintops may then assume a rosy, pink or yellow tint. This phenomenon is known as Alpenglühen, alpenglow or alpine glow.
In this view around sunrise from the summit of Mt. Zugspitze, Wetterstein Mountains, Germany, at 2962 m of elevation on the German-Austrian border, the shadow cast by Mt. Zugspitze can be seen on the left side of the picture, while the mountaintops on the right of the picture are bathed in the rosy colours of the Alpenglühen. On the lower ground, the Sun has not yet risen.
