The image shows a deposit of dew on grass, consisting of very small water droplets. Excess water vapour condensed on the blades of grass as air close to the ground cooled below the dew point due to nocturnal radiation. Note the wide range of droplet sizes. Some larger droplets appear to be an amalgamation of smaller droplets. The dew was still present at midday because evaporation was inhibited by a very light wind and a hedge which sheltered the grass from the rays of a low-angled Sun.

A weak cold front had cleared the area the previous evening, followed by a ridge of high pressure building over the area. Dew formed in the slack polar maritime returning (Pmr) airstream behind the front, in light winds and clearing skies. As outgoing radiation caused the temperature to fall below the dew point, so excess water vapour condensed to form dew on
grass and other surfaces.
