In this photo, velum, the accessory cloud of great horizontal extent, is attached to the upper part of this Cumulonimbus capillatus incus. After the formation of the velum, the Cumulonimbus top penetrated and pierced the velum. Upper-level winds are shearing the velum downwind.
Cumulus fractus and humilis cells, sheared by strong low-level winds, are in the foreground. Altocumulus and Cirrostratus, formed from the spreading of parts of Cumulonimbus, complete the sky.
