(Section 3.2.2.2)

Drifting and Blowing Dust or Sand

(Section 3.2.2.2.1)

Definition: Drifting and blowing dust or sand: An ensemble of particles of dust or sand raised, at or near the observation site, from the ground to small or moderate heights by a sufficiently strong and turbulent wind.

The wind conditions (speed and gustiness) necessary to produce these lithometeors depend on the nature, the state and the degree of dryness of the ground.
