Turbulence in clouds and their vicinity

(Section 2.5.1.4)

Vertical currents (ascending and descending) may occur in or around clouds. The successive jolts felt in an aircraft when it passes from one such current to another constitute what aviators call “turbulence”. The severity of this turbulence depends on the speed and dimensions of the vertical currents and also on the characteristics of the aircraft.
