Cirrus is distinguished from Cirrocumulus by:

  • Mainly fibrous or silky appearance
  • Absence of small cloud elements in the form of grains, ripples, etc
  • Absence of a corona or irisation 
  • Possible shading in thick Cirrus and no shading in Cirrocumulus
  • Absence of virga
