Lightning: Ball Lightning

(Section 3.2.4.1.1)

A luminous globe has occasionally been observed, soon after a discharge to ground. This globe, the diameter of which has been reported to be generally between 10 cm and 20 cm but is said sometimes to reach 100 cm, is known as ball lightning. It moves slowly in the air or on the ground and usually disappears with a violent explosion.
