Cirrocumulus is distinguished from Cirrostratus by:

  • Having ripples or grains; any fibrous, silky or smooth portions do not collectively constitute its greater part
  • Usually being thin enough to show the disc of the Sun or Moon but sometimes being thicker so that only the position of the Sun or Moon is revealed
  • Possible irisation
  • No halo phenomena
  • Possible virga
  • Possible mamma
