Stratocumulus floccus (Sc flo) - CIMO 2016

(Section 2.3.7.2.5)

Small tufts of cumuliform appearance; the lower parts of the tufts are generally ragged and, at very low temperatures, are accompanied by fibrous trails (ice crystal virga). Stratocumulus floccus is an indication of instability at that level. Stratocumulus floccus often forms as a result of the dissipation of the base of Stratocumulus castellanus.
